Dr. J. Max McCullum is a double board-certified and fellowship trained oral maxillofacial and facial cosmetic surgeon. He has a focused interest in aesthetic face and jaw procedures, including Corrective Jaw Surgery, Chin Reshaping Surgery (Genioplasty), and TMJ Surgery. With advanced training focused solely on the face, jaw, and dentition, Dr. McCullum provides highly specialized care with a patient-centered philosophy.
Dr. McCullum earned his Bachelor of Science with honors in biology and psychology from Loyola University Maryland. He went on to complete a Master’s in Public Health at Thomas Jefferson University before earning his Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University of Maryland. He completed his medical and surgical training at The Mount Sinai Hospital Icahn School of Medicine in New York City through a highly regarded oral and maxillofacial surgery residency. There, he developed a strong foundation in Corrective Jaw Surgery, Facial Trauma, and Complex Reconstruction. While serving as chief resident, he cultivated a special interest in facial aesthetics, which led him to pursue advanced fellowship training.
Dr. McCullum completed a Facial Cosmetic and Reconstructive Surgery fellowship through the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery under Dr. Randy Sanovich in Dallas, Texas. His fellowship included comprehensive training in facial rejuvenation procedures such as face, neck, and brow lifts, eyelid surgery, custom facial implants, as well as large-volume Orthognathic Surgery and TMJ Replacement.
Dr. McCullum is among a select group of oral and maxillofacial surgeons with formal fellowship training in aesthetic face and jaw surgery. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and an active member of the American Academy of Facial Cosmetic Surgery.
Outside of surgery, Dr. McCullum enjoys spending time with his wife, a native Texan and trauma surgeon he met during residency. Together, they enjoy exploring Austin’s food and outdoor scene, staying active, and connecting with family and friends.
